Commercial-Grade Power for the Residential Yard – A Total Game Changer

After putting about 5 hours of seat time on the Cub Cadet Ultima Z2 with the 42-inch deck and Kawasaki engine, I can confidently say this machine bridges the gap between residential convenience and commercial-grade power. I am using this to maintain a little over a half-acre lot, and the efficiency gains alone make this worth every penny. However, as a taller rider, I did run into a specific comfort issue that buyers should be aware of. At 6'3", finding a riding mower that fits comfortably can be a challenge. While the high-back seat itself offers great lumbar support and the rubber floor mat effectively dampens deck vibration, the legroom is a bit cramped for my frame. Even with the seat adjusted all the way back, I find it difficult to get enough room to stretch out comfortably. If you are over 6 feet tall, you can certainly still operate it safely, but you will definitely feel a bit squeezed into the cockpit. Aside from the tight fit, the performance is flawless. The 21.5 HP V-Twin Kawasaki FR Series engine is the standout feature here. It starts reliably every time, runs smooth, and handles thick, overgrown spring grass without the engine bogging down or dropping RPMs. The dual hydro-gear drive is incredibly smooth. The lap bars are responsive without being overly jerky, which gives you excellent, precise control around delicate landscaping features and tight corners. The 42-inch fabricated deck feels exceptionally rugged compared to standard stamped decks. It creates an incredible amount of airflow, pulling the grass upright to deliver a perfectly level, clean cut on the first pass. The 42-inch width is ideal if you have a yard with tight spaces—it gives you the speed of a zero-turn while still easily fitting right through my standard backyard gate with room to spare. Pros: Kawasaki Engine: Smooth power delivery, runs quieter than single-cylinder engines, and highly reliable. Welded Fabricated Deck: Built to take a beating from stray roots or rocks without denting. Gate-Friendly: Perfect size to fit through a standard backyard fence opening while still cutting a wide path. Time-Saver: Cut my mowing time down significantly compared to my old mower. Cons: Cramped for Tall Riders: At 6'3", even with the seat pushed all the way back, there isn't quite enough room to feel completely comfortable. Steering Sensitivity: If you're new to zero-turns, the controls are sensitive. Expect a 15-minute learning curve to get your muscle memory down. Fuel Sight Line: The clear window to check fuel levels can be slightly tough to read when the sun is hitting it directly. This is a serious machine for homeowners who want a pristine lawn in a fraction of the time. The combination of a commercial-style fabricated deck and a legendary Kawasaki engine makes the Ultima Z2 a top-tier investment. If you are on the taller side, I'd highly recommend sitting on one at the store first to test the legroom, but from a pure performance standpoint, it’s tough to beat.

A monster of a mower. Love It!

Picked up my first Zero turn today 7/15/26, the Ultima Z2 50. After I got it home, I put some gas in it and drove to the upper part of property to test it out. This mower has a lot of power and handled going up the hill without an issue. After getting to the top I tested the driving and steering. The mower is very sensitive so you have to be careful and take the 180 turn very slow or else you'll rip up the turf. After going back and forth a few times to get used to how it handles, I decided to give the yard a cut. A job that usually takes me over an hour to complete with my 42 inch mower, took me thirty minutes. I'm going to take it back out again tomorrow and see how it handles around obstacles like trees, fences and the shed. I purchased it at Home Depot in Midlothian and the guy who helped me, Jack, was very helpful and informative. Thank you Jack for your guidance in picking this beast.

Good mower

First mow tonight on my new Z2 54 R. The front axle was a little too tight so the spring relief wasn’t free. Easy fix, great power and good mowing speed.

Perfect start to finish.

This Cub Cadet Z2 42”mower is great! The Home Depot store manager “Dan” sold the mower to me directly and was really great to work with. The mower was brand new still on the factory pallet. Dan came outside with 3 of his staff, uncrated, and loaded the new mower into my trailer. Took me roughly 10 minutes at home to install the seat and control levers. Added the gas Dan gave me free of charge and fired the Kawasaki motor up. Great mower, great cut and great service from Dan and his team at Valrico Florida HD.

regretted purchase

But there’s a couple months ago. Multiple issues have occurred since owning this, including the battery cable coming loose. The second time I tried to use it a tire that won’t stay on, so I had to take it to a tire shop to get fixed, and worst of all the mower deck doesn’t allow enough room for grass clippings to come out from under so the more chokes itself and dies. From, loved to despised in two months time.

Great customer service

I just purchased this lawnmower 4 days ago. Home Depot delivered it but it wouldn’t start. On closer inspection we discovered that it was a used lawnmower. The store manager brought out a zero hour replacement within an hour. He went above and beyond to make me happy. I also gave me a cash discount for my troubles. The lawnmower works flawlessly. I am a very satisfied customer.

Awesome!!! I had the exact same one for 5 years with the kohler engine ( over 500 hours) and it served me very well even when I didn’t even maintain it well. I’m loving this new one with the Kawasaki engine. The new deck is also very great
